It’s the summer of 1996, and the Olympic Games are in full swing in Atlanta, Georgia. Security guard Richard Jewell (Paul Walter Hauser) is patrolling the grounds of the Centennial Olympic Park when he discovers a backpack containing three pipe bombs under a bench.
After altering the police to his discovery, Jewell helps to evacuate the area before the bomb explodes. An act that surely saves hundreds from a horrific fate.
But three days after being hailed a hero, Jewell is revealed as a prime suspect when the FBI claims the security guard fits their lone bomber criminal profile.
The press jumps onboard with the government’s accusations with claims Jewell intentionally planted the bomb so he could be known as a hero. Encouraged by his lawyer Watson Bryant (Sam Rockwell) to stand up and fight, Jewell must step outside of his comfort zone in order to clear his name.
Directed by legendary actor turned director Clint Eastwood (The Mule, American Sniper, Gran Torino), Richard Jewell is based on a compelling true story of American injustice.
The film features a powerful lead performance from Paul Walter Hauser (I, Tonya, BlacKkKlansman, Late Night) as Jewell, and stellar support from Jon Hamm (Mad Men, Baby Driver, Top Gun: Maverick), Kathy Bates (American Horror Story, On the basis of Sex, The Blind Side), Olivia Wilde (Rush, TRON: Legacy) and Sam Rockwell (Vice, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, The Green Mile).
