From Classroom Dreams to Digital Reality

Printworks has been transformed into a psychedelic dreamscape designed by 18-year-old Yorkshire artist, Neive Shields, whose work now lights up Europe’s largest digital ceiling.

Neive, a former Huddersfield New College student, won Printworks’ nationwide student art competition, which invited young creatives to reimagine the 1,000m² digital ceiling.

Her vibrant design – featuring swirling colours, surreal mushrooms, majestic lions and playful sloths – was unveiled this week as a fully animated, immersive experience with synchronised sound and motion.

Now preparing to study at Leeds Arts University, Neive is passionate about turning her creativity into a career. Alongside digital art, she also designs tattoos for friends and family.

She said: “I’ve loved art since I was a child, growing up in a very creative family. Winning has been an amazing experience and it’s given me a lot more confidence in my art.”

The judging panel was led by Manchester-based artist Laura Frances Heitzman, whose own artwork has previously been showcased on Printworks’ gigantic ceiling.

Neive’s winning artwork will be on display throughout September, giving visitors the chance to experience her psychedelic vision in the heart of Manchester.

Tommy Fury’s Documentary Premiere at Printworks

Printworks became the ultimate stage for the highly anticipated premiere of Tommy: The Good. The Bad. The Fury, hosted exclusively at Vue.

The brand-new BBC Three documentary series follows Tommy Fury’s journey back into the boxing ring, showcasing his legacy, determination, and life beyond the sport.

The celebration extended far beyond the cinema, with a full-scale brand takeover across Printworks’ iconic digital screens. Europe’s largest digital ceiling lit up with striking visuals from the series, creating an immersive experience for visitors and fans alike.

The red carpet drew huge crowds, as hundreds of fans gathered to cheer on Tommy. Adding to the star power were high-profile guests including Manchester City’s Phil Foden and World’s Strongest Man Eddie Hall, alongside family, friends, and fellow celebrities.

Tommy: The Good. The Bad. The Fury premieres on BBC Three from Tuesday 19th August.

Manchester’s BIGGEST golden hour experience!

This August, Printworks is cranking up the summer vibes by transforming its massive 1,000m² digital ceiling into a breathtaking golden-hour sky – giving visitors the chance to soak up that dreamy Balearic light without leaving the UK.

As the heatwave rolls in, step out of the sweltering streets and into a cool indoor escape where Ibiza-style sunsets last all evening. Imagine rich, glowing colours melting slowly from amber to rose, stretching across the entire venue and washing everything in laid-back holiday warmth.

Following its £27m transformation, Printworks has been delivering spectacular moments that stop people in their tracks – and this record-breaking sunset is our most mesmerising display yet, bringing a slice of Mediterranean magic to the heart of Manchester.

Massive Hype for Dave’s Preview

Dave’s Hot Chicken made a fiery first impression with a full-on takeover of Printworks yesterday, ahead of their grand opening – serving up over 400 free sliders in under 90 minutes and dominating Europe’s largest digital ceiling in bold, blazing style.

To mark the occasion, the cult LA-born brand turned the ceiling into a jaw-dropping spectacle of sizzling visuals, signature red-and-yellow branding, and high-energy animations – creating an unmissable moment that stopped visitors in their tracks and brought the space to life in true Dave’s Hot Chicken style.

Crowds gathered early, with queues forming well before the doors opened and stretching across the Pumpyard as hungry fans and curious foodies lined up for a taste. A live DJ kept the vibe high, exclusive merch was snapped up fast, and media, creators, and city influencers joined in to capture the heat.

Backed by Drake and born in LA, Dave’s Hot Chicken is famous for its bold flavours, cult following, and crave-worthy chicken — bringing something genuinely new to Manchester’s casual dining scene.

This was just the beginning. Dave’s Hot Chicken officially opens Friday 8th August – and Manchester’s about to feel the heat.
