This Summer, Printworks is transforming into a spectacular safari, featuring exciting activities and immersive on-screen content with fun for the whole family!

Join in with our launch event on 23rd July, where iconic cBeebies presenter Andy Day will be hosting free workshops in our safari zone! Known for his hit show Andy’s Adventures, Andy will be interactive elements and showcasing an array of safari knowledge to all.

Across the summer, visitors can meet life-size safari animals, play in a giant sandpit, unwind on deckchairs and capture photos in a life-sized safari jeep, featuring accessible space, interactive elements including a working horn, flashing lights and realistic engine sounds, ensuring all can join the fun.

You can also put your safari skills to the test with our quiz on our interactive gaming screen by identifying animals trailing along our digital ceiling, or find our Cappee our capybara mascot  hidden amongst his jungle friends!

We’ve also got special Safari hats to give out on our launch day, grab one before they’re gone!

Workshops with cBeebies star Andy Day

On 23rd July, cBeebies presenter Andy Day will host three free interactive safari-themed workshops  throughout the afternoon. Known for inspiring children’s curiosity about wildlife, nature and exploration bringing his trademark energy and educational storytelling to Printworks. We’ll also have a giant roaming elephant patrolling through Printworks for you to meet!

Each workshop will include:

Sounds in the Wild

Children will learn about the sounds of the safari through an interactive animal call challenge, guessing and recreating the noises of creatures found across the African wilderness.

Animal Dance Party

The fun continues with a high-energy dance session where children will stomp like elephants, bounce like monkeys and move like their favourite safari animals.

Storytime with Andy

The workshop will conclude with a relaxing story time session, where children can gather on beanbags and celebrate completing their safari adventure.

Students, Show Us What You’ve Got!

Are you an aspiring artist? Students aged 16 and over are invited to bring the ocean to life on Europe’s largest digital ceiling – the 1,000m² wraparound LED canvas seen by millions each year at Printworks.

One winner will have their work transformed into a breathtaking, immersive art experience, right in the heart of Manchester.

The Competition

This competition invites students to design an original artwork inspired by this year’s theme: “Ocean / Under the Sea”.

From colourful coral gardens and tropical fish to mysterious deep-sea worlds and majestic marine life, students are encouraged to unleash their creativity and dive beneath the waves for inspiration!

Printworks will transform the winning artwork and reimagine it into an animated masterpiece with sound, motion and displayed in epic scale above the venue’s thousands of daily visitors and give one talented student an incredible launchpad for their future careers!

The winning artist will also receive an iPad and Apple Pencil to give budding creatives a powerful new tool to continue developing their artistic talents and future projects beyond the competition! Additionally, second and third place entries will receive vouchers to be used at our venue’s tenants.

Celebrating World Bee Day

Did you know the 20th May is World Bee Day?

At Printworks, our rooftop is home to 5 beehives, filled with thousands of bees and a queen in each! They work hard each day in our secret garden, pollinating our plants and producing delicious Printworks honey.

Why the bees?

The worker bee is an iconic Manchester symbol of our hard work, cooperation, and unity of our city.

But we also celebrate our Printworks bees and beehives on World Bee Day each year to highlight the critical role of bees in pollination, which supports the reproduction of flowering plants, agricultural crops, and the health of ecosystems – essential for food security and biodiversity.

Our own bee-cosystem was even unveiled by Mancunian legend Bez from the Happy Mondays all the way back in 2012! (photo credit: Dave Thompson/PA Wire)
