NEW LOOK PRINTWORKS

Revealed today…

150 years as an iconic building in Manchester and now our £21 million transformation has been completed. Printworks has relaunched as the home of the largest digital ceiling in Europe. Welcome to Manchester’s new world of entertainment.

Printworks has revealed a stunning 1,000m2 screen on its ceiling, the first of its kind in Europe. The centre has been transformed into an immersive, interactive digital family-friendly space with state-of-the-art digital screens flooding the central walkways with colour and sound. The experience is free of charge for our guests to enjoy and must be seen to be believed.

The press saw the screen unveiled at 7.30am this morning and our fabulous re-launch party will take place tomorrow night!

Visitors will experience a fully immersive and interactive environment on a scale not previously seen in the UK.

The transformation of Printworks is the result of five years work spearheaded by DTZ Investors along with a creative team of architects, brand and destination specialists, artists and digital media creatives.

Nine actors, eight dancers, six dogs, four rabbits, three snakes, three swimmers, two tarantulas, one baby and one Coronation Street star were all filmed for over 250 hours to create the content over 12 months. In addition, stunning CGI content includes cute, but mischievous, creatures, journeys through space, jungles and stunning, playful pieces which will run throughout the day and night in specially programmed times.

“This transformation is truly ground-breaking as a screen of this size has never been installed on a ceiling in Europe and it has created a spectacular, free, public show that people of all ages can enjoy. This will be a game changer for Manchester and offer something unique, the likes of which can only be seen at Freemont Street or The Sphere in Las Vegas. We are responding to consumers’ desire for immersive experiences and see Printworks as leading the way in using digital technology.

We have created a best-in-class entertainment destination on a scale never seen in the UK or Europe. We have moved with customer trends to provide more daytime activities, competitive socialising and an unrivalled family day out as well as still offering exciting night time venues.

Ben Haller | DTZ Investors

Further refurbishments include a giant 210 square metre piece of public art by Alex Sylt, which was chosen by the people of Manchester in a public vote, as well as a panel of expert judges including Norman Cook, (Fatboy Slim).

A digital gaming screen has been added where passers-by can use their phones to play multi-player games against each other. Plus, a complete refurbishment externally and internally, including spectacular entrance gateways. In addition to the building renovations, Vue Cinemas has invested £6M improving its guest experience by installing luxury recliner seating to complement the 20 newly refurbished screens at Printworks, the largest cinema complex outside of London.

Mother’s Day gift cards

The Guilt-Free Gift for Mum!

Ever heard of Mum Guilt? With 77% of mums saying they’ve felt guilty about spending money on themselves, it’s a big issue! Mother’s Day is the perfect time to banish the Mum Guilt and get her something she’ll really appreciate this year. A Printworks gift card is that practical gift for mum to actually treat herself, with the choice of a fun time with friends, catching the latest movie, enjoying a delicious meal, and much more!

Time for Mum 💅

If there’s one thing mums would love more of, it’s time! Over a quarter of mums say they get just 15 minutes a day to themselves and wish they had more time for themselves or to spend with friends. A Printworks Gift Card gifts mum the chance to pencil in time just for her. Whether it’s having a much needed catch up with a friend over a cocktail or two, or a delicious date night meal with dad, give your mum the gift of time this Mother’s Day.

The Gift of Choice 🎬🍴⛳

Some of the top items mums feel guilty spending money on are nights & days out, meals out and health & fitness activities. So before you reach for that same old Mother’s Day gift you get every year, have you thought about what your mum REALLY wants? Whether it’s a fun time with friends, catching the latest movie or a delicious meal, it’s all possible with a Printworks Gift Card. And all without that dreaded Mum-Guilt!

Practically Perfect 💳

When money is tight and finances are stretched, mums will often prioritise children’s needs over spending money on themselves. Let’s make Mother’s Day the exception! Gifts that can be used in a practical way are a great way to counter the cost of living crisis. Rather than just giving her a beautiful but ultimately useless bouquet of flowers, you could give your mum the chance to treat themselves with a Printworks Gift Card!

Treat Mum to a Printworks Gift Card!

More than a Gift Card…

Your Printworks Gift Card is more than a gift card – it’s time for mum, it’s a gateway to all kinds of experiences that mums really want and need, and it’s a chance for mum to treat herself. You can select any value from £20, £50, £75 or £100 to load up your Gift Card and can even add a personalised message for Mother’s Day! As a physical Gift Card you can either have it posted to yourself to give to your mum in person or have it sent straight to your mum’s door. The Gift Card simply works like a standard pre-paid Gift Card and is valid across all venues within Manchester Printworks (excluding Yates). She doesn’t even have to spend it all in one place either – she can spend a little here, a little there, and make it the gift that keeps on giving! Order yours now to get it in time for Mother’s Day.

Printworks Big Art Unveiled!

Printworks Big Art is Installed!

Printworks Big Art is our larger than life art installation in partnership with Wild in Art, (the great minds behind Bee in the City), and was commissioned alongside our creative work to launch Europe’s Largest Digital Ceiling. We have now unveiled our winning design in situ, after receiving applications from so many amazing, talented artists and designers within our creative community!

The Artist

The design is the work of winner Alex Sylt, a 32 year old screen printer based in Hope Mill, originally from Northwich. His concept was voted for by the people of Manchester and a panel of judges in 2023 and was revealed to the public by Norman Cook last year. Alex has been screen printing for over 10 years and this method of creating art has influenced his design for Printworks.

“This piece has taken almost a year to create from start to finish, no surprise considering the scale! Of course, I always knew it would be huge but when you see it for the first time it’s such a joy. I hope that people will enjoy trying to spot the different references and will see something different each time.”

The Design

The striking, intricate design is bold and bright featuring well known landmarks of Manchester including Manchester City and Manchester United football clubs, The Town Hall, Gotham Hotel, Ancoats Marina, John Ryland Library, and of course Printworks itself as well as many, many more. It is a celebration of Manchester past and present with the suffragette movementLGBTQ+ community, as well as iconic sport and music elements all taking a starring role.

From initial concept to final image, the design has evolved throughout the project. The image now blooms from three diagonal lines at the base of the piece, as the lines are an important motif in the crest of Manchester. The work of Malcolm Garrett MBE and the iconic album covers he created for Duran Duran, Simple Minds, Peter Gabriel and Buzzcocks magazine have been referenced as have the diagonal lines that are synonymous with the Hacienda. The central column of flowers acts as a statue held up by the hands of the people of Manchester, representing the diversity of the city. The story of the city is told through the languages of flowers and colours. This includes sunflowers for Alan Turing’s early research, purple coloured flowers represent the Suffragette movement and the LGBTQ+ community are also represented. The floral imagery is set against strong lines of printing presses, as a nod to the history of Printworks, and the many buildings of the city. Other nods to well known Manchester music icons and album covers can also be spotted within the piece.

The Installation

Printworks Big Art final image is now fully installed on the Nuffield Tower in the pump yard for all to admire. This incredible piece of public art is a whopping 210 metre square, the biggest our city has seen! The artwork is the first completed element of the overall, ongoing Printworks refurbishment which will be unveiled this spring. The more you view this stunning piece, the more details you’ll discover – it’s definitely worth a visit!

To fully explore the references within the piece in more detail, a series of five videos presented by Jahmal Williams Thomas, who is on the board of trustees for Manchester Histories, as well as being a TV presenter for Granada, will be available to view in Printworks when the refurbishment is complete later this spring.

Veganuary is back!

Join the plant-based revolution! 🥕🍅

Start 2024 right and take part in Veganuary. Whether you want to be more ethically conscious, reap the health benefits, or simply see what all the fuss is about, Printworks can help you try veganism this January – you might like it so much you’ll stick to it all year!

The number of people fully embracing Veganism has increased dramatically over the past few years and it’s down to the development of all the fantastic meat-free alternatives that are now available out there! Recently, there has been an explosion of plant-based foods available to make the transition a lot easier, even for the meatiest of eaters!

Veganuary Specials…

Wagamama guests know that every Veganuary they can expect new and exciting plant-based flavours to nourish them. And this year is no exception as they launch their Lion’s Mane ‘Steak’ Bulgogia! The smoky Lion’s Mane mushroom gives it the ‘steak’ element and is drizzled with korean barbecue sauce, all served on top of udon noodles cooked with aubergine and caramelised onion in a sweet & salty amai miso sauce. Finished off with a sprinkling of sesame seeds and garnished with kimchee, spring onion, red chilli, and coriander. With half their menu being meat-free, there’s still so many more vegan dishes to choose from at Wagamama! Try their take on a Korean street-food favourite with new Vegan K-Dogs made from soya protein and coated in a crunchy noodle crumb. Enjoy even more mushrooms with the King Oyster Mushroom Skewers starters coated in a sticky red chilli and miso glaze. Go for a warming Korean-inspired broth with the Tofu Hot Pot full of soft and silky tteokbokki, butternut squash, mangetout, bok choi, kimchee, and red onion, finished with a drizzle of chilli oil. And if your looking for a cooling contrast to any spicy bowls, add on a side of Snow Onion Slaw – finely sliced white onions coated in a creamy vegan mayo and sprinkled with red pepper powder for a mouthful of relief!

Hard Rock Cafe are kicking off the New Year with some fresh, plant-powered dishes on their brand-new Veganuary Menu! Consider your tastebuds tempted with mouth-watering meat-free options and get ready for a month of indulgence without the guilt! Starters include the Courgette and Guacamole Bruschetta and Cauliflower Wings, with plant-based mains like the Moving Mountains BBQ Stack Burger, the Moving Mountains Tacos and the Quorn Tenders Salad – all flavour-packed delights that proves no meat, no problem! Or perhaps you fancy fully embracing the month of vegetables with their Quinoa Mexicana Salad or the Mushroom Primavera Pasta. And top it all off with a classic dessert of Sticky Toffee Pudding with a dollop of vegan vanilla ice cream. Hard Rock’s special Vegan & Vegetarian menu will be available from January 3rd to January 31st.

Wetherspoon are introducing the Beyond BBQ Stack Burger this Veganuary! Featuring a Beyond Meat plant-based patty, BBQ sauce, onion rings, iceberg lettuce, tomato and red onion, all in a vegan brioche bun and served with chips. You can even enjoy this meal with a soft or alcoholic drink included! Available throughout Veganuary from 1st-31st January. There is also a range of other vegan dishes on offer all year round, with vegan menus available – just look out for the vegan symbol to see which meals are vegan friendly.

Vegan Options…

Frankie & Benny’s have got you covered with their range of mouth watering vegan dishes! They’ve teamed up with 3 amazing companies to bring you meat-free alternatives to some classic American-Italian dishes. The popular Biff’s Vegan Wingz, (made from Jackfruit) can come as a sticky BBQ starter or smashed on the Vegan Stacker Burger – one of those oh-so-delicious comfort meals that might just leave you a little messy! There’s also the Vegan Hot Dog which comes fully loaded with fried onions, chillies, BBQ sauce & vegan mayo, the Vegan Mac ‘n’ Cheese topped with soya mince in a delicately spiced tomato sauce, and the Vegan Pepperoni Pizza which comes with toppings of vegan spicy & smoky pepperoni crumb, roasted red pepper, chilli, fresh basil and vegan mozzarella. Add a side of Lava Fries for a spicy little extra – chilli seasoned fries, vegan cheddar sauce, red onion, spicy sriracha, chilli & spring onions! Vegan never tasted so good! Check out the full menu now!

Switch it up this January and surprise yourself with a meat-free Mexican fiesta at Chiquito’s! They offer some classic Mexican dishes, with a vegan twist, with starters, mains, sides and desserts that will leave you spoilt for choice! Start your vegan meal with the Jackfruit Birria – pibil pulled jackfruit in mini quesadillas filled with vegan cheddar and mozzarella and served with coriander & pink onions, all ready for dipping in a rich gravy! Then move on to the Drowned Burrito – quite literally drowning in their signature ancho sauce! It’s filled with Oumph! and veggie chilli to rock your taste buds, all topped off with cheesy vegan mozzarella and Oatly fraiche, (like creme fraiche, but made with oats instead). Then finish strong with an amazing Chocolate dessert that has all the comfort, without the dairy – a Deep Fried Choc Ice! Chocolate chip ice cream wrapped in a chocolate tortilla, deep fried and covered in chocolate sauce and strawberries. It’s almost too much chocolate to comprehend!

We all know Nando’s is the home of Peri-Peri Chicken but did you know about their vegan alternatives already on the menu? The Great Imitator Wrap contains their Peri-Plant strips that are made from pea-protein but taste just like their famous Peri-Peri chicken. Served with plant-based garlic perinaise, lettuce and chilli jam. It’s such a good imitation, you won’t notice the difference! Or you could opt for their Spiced Chickpea Patty with a mix of chickpea and spinach with hints of cumin, coriander and turmeric. You can choice to have it in a soft tortilla wrap, a toasted pitta or as a burger in a bolo do caco. Then it’s loaded with houmous, red pepper chutney, pink pickled onions and lettuce. Delicious, healthy and Vegan! If you’re really feeling the healthy vegan diet then there’s always the Rainbow Bowl. Warm spiced grains and long-stem broccoli with houmous, rainbow slaw, pickled golden carrot and a sprinkle of seeds. It’s all about the variety of colours that makes it full of nutrition as well as flavour!

Switch to the Vegan Bratwurst at Bierkeller – full of plant-based power! Traditionally topped with ketchup, mustard and onions in a crispy bread roll and garnished with sauerkraut, of course. You can make it more of a treat by adding a topping of Vegan BBQ Pulled Oumph with vegan cheese & crispy onions to make it more of a messy dog – napkins provided! Alternatively, you can grab a snack of Vegan Currywurst Loaded Fries whilst you watch the match instead, topped with sliced vegan Bratwurst, curry ketchup sauce & madras curry powder. Or why not grab a bucket of Vegan Wings? Go for 5 or 10 crispy fried plant-based wings served with your choice of sauce form Maple & Bourbon BBQ, Franks Red Hot, Jamaican Jerk, Mango & Habanero, Siracha, or just Naked. No matter whether you like ’em hot & spicy or sweet & sticky, you can get your wings the way you want – and all meat-free!

Go Vegan this month at Printworks!
